Charles (Ho) Kong is the winner of the Electron Microscopy category and is also the overall winner of the competition for 2015.
Charles is a PhD student from the School of Chemical Sciences. His supervisor is Dr Viji Sarojini.
The winning image is a Cryo-SEM image of a frozen strawberry sample showing physical damage to the ultrastructure caused by ice crystals. It was acquired on the FEI (Philips) XL30S FEG scanning electron microscope located at the Research Centre for Surface and Materials Science.
The photo shows Charles in the BIRU Library with his prizes. He was unable to receive his award in person at the BIRU Research Celebration.
