The Nanolive 3D Cell Explorer was hosted in the BIRU in February 2017, following the 28th New Zealand Conference on Microscopy. The system provoked much interest due to its novel capabilities and detailed images. One researcher in particular, Associate Professor Justin Dean, from the Department of Physiology, was sufficiently impressed to apply for funding from Lottery Health Research NZ together with support from the BIRU. The application was successful with full funding awarded in 2018.
However, in the interim, a new version of the system had been released, which allowed complementary fluorescence imaging along with holotomography. The additional costs were met through BIRU funds to enable the very latest system to be purchased, complete with an Okolab incubation system.
The 3D Cell Explorer will be available for all users with support being provided by staff in the BIRU.
