Dr Victoria Hewitt has been appointed as the new Technical Manager for the BIRU.
Victoria has a research background with experience imaging mitochondrial dynamics and morphology in neurons in flies and mice.
She has experience in confocal imaging and TEM and will support the team providing advice and training, experimental design and image analysis as well as providing operational support and leadership in the BIRU.
Victoria did her undergrad at The University of Canterbury and her PhD at Monash University before postdoctoral research at Sheffield University, the MRC Mitochondrial Unit at the University of Cambridge and Columbia University's Zuckerman Institute.
She returned to New Zealand in 2023 and joined the University of Auckland research office to develop research training opportunities.
