Dr Richard Yulo has a background in microbiology and genetics. He did his PhD at Massey University, Auckland where he studied the evolution of cell shape in bacteria using techniques such as a flow cytometry and fluorescence microscopy. Following this, he worked as a microscopy specialist and service engineer at ZEISS Microscopy. Richard now joins the FMHS to be an imaging scientist at the BIRU.
Richard is keen on helping researchers get the most out of their experiments. He brings with him experience in training and supporting microscopists across a wide range of disciplines, including widefield and confocal microscopy for the life sciences. He will be happy to help with project planning and discuss strategies on experiment design, image optimisation, and image quantification.
Richard will be looking after the Molecular Devices ImageXpress Micro HCS system, Olympus FV1000 confocal microscope, MetaSystems VSlide slide scanner, Bruker MALDI-TOF imaging mass spectrometer.
