Health Hackathon: Solving Self-care will take place from 6pm 18 March through to 4pm 20 March, 2016.

On the Friday evening, the event will be launched and attendees with ideas will be asked to pitch them in order to gather a group of collaborators for the weekend. At this point you will begin work on your idea, until campus closes at 10pm.

You will be able to work on campus all day Saturday and Sunday morning. After lunch on Sunday groups will present ideas with sufficient detail for a judging panel to decide on a set of winners.

Health Hackathon: Solving self-care. Brought to you in collaboration with Health Informatics New Zealand

Welcome to the second annual Health Hackathon: Solving Self-care, at the University of Auckland's Tāmaki Innovation Campus.

What is Health Hackathon: Solving Self-care?

Health Hackathon: Solving Self-care is a weekend workshop, designed to enable attendees from various backgrounds to collaboratively explore and develop technology solutions in response to the problem of self-care for long term health issues.

Many people with long term health issues, such as diabetes or asthma or heart issues, need to work with their doctors, nurses and other healthcare providers to help achieve the best wellness possible. This ‘self-care’ usually involves tracking how people feel and what they’re doing, and sometimes communicating directly with their doctor or nurse.

Health Hackathon: Solving Self-care aims to stimulate innovative thinking about technology solutions for people with long term health issues to help them track and record their healthcare plan, and progress and outcomes, in order to improve their overall wellbeing.

Who should be there?

We would like to extend an invitation to any software developers, people with long term health issues, doctors, nurses and other clinicians, managers of health services and anyone who is interested in solving this problem. The teams will be made up of a mix of these people as they volunteer to work on an idea that interests them. We are also looking for volunteer judges, mentors and experts.

Attendance is free.

Research as part of the Hackathon

We are conducting research as part of this hackathon, titled ‘Stimulating innovative self-care solutions: Health hackathon as case study’.

Many people with long term health issues, such as diabetes or asthma or heart issues, need to work with their doctors and nurses to help achieve the best wellness possible. This ‘self-care’ usually involves tracking how people feel and what they’re doing, and sometimes communicating directly with their doctor or nurse.

The hackathon that you’re registering to attend aims to stimulate innovative thinking about technology solutions for people with long term health issues to help them track and record their healthcare plan, and progress and outcomes, in order to improve their overall wellbeing. While you’re working in a team on a solution during the hackathon, we would like to conduct research that helps us understand how the teams progress their self-care solutions and how these solutions could be helpful.

You can complete the first questionnaire now.
