Invitation: Treaty of Waitangi Seminar Event as iCalendar

The Section of Audiology will be hosting a Treaty of Waitangi Seminar on Friday the 14 th of March for our new Master of Audiology Students. Any School of Population Health staff who would like to attend this seminar are very welcome to do so. Morning and afternoon tea will be provided.

This course is a brief introduction to the Treaty of Waitangi and its implications. The main purposes are:

  1. to increase understanding of the Treaty by providing basic information about why it was written and what it says
  2. to address common misunderstandings

An outline of course content:

  • opening, introductions, housekeeping
  • different ways of seeing things – the ‘wave’
  • setting the context
  • reasons for a Treaty
  • British intervention, incl the Declaration of Independence
  • what the Treaty says
  • colonisation
  • redress, including settlements
  • Treaty today
  • personal responses
