Gluckman Medal to outstanding clinical leader

Internationally recognised surgeon and perioperative care specialist, Professor Andrew Hill, is this year’s recipient of the Gluckman Medal for his outstanding contributions to research, education and service. Read more.

Dr Lyndon awarded Fullbright Science and Innovation Graduate Award

Dr Mataroria Lyndon was awarded a Fullbright Science and Innovation Graduate Award to undertake a Masters of Public Health in Health Policy and Management at Harvard University in Boston, US. The Fulbright New Zealand programme promotes international goodwill and mutual understanding between New Zealand and the United States through educational and cultural exchange. Read more.



Research Fellow awarded Rhodes scholarship

Dr Oscar Lyons is one of three young New Zealanders awarded a Rhodes scholarship.  Dr Lyons plans to complete a Masters of Science in Higher Education at Oxford in the United Kingdom. Read more.

Research Fellow receives Rose Hellaby Award

Dr Lyndon was a recipient of the 2015 Rose Hellaby Postgraduate Scholarships, a fund established by the late Rose Hellaby to celebrate and support Maori education.  Read more about his success in The Northern Advocate and NZ Herald.

Professor Andrew Hill recognised for teaching excellence

Professor Andrew Hill was the recipient of the University of Auckland Teaching Excellence Award – ‘Excellence in Postgraduate Research Supervision’. The award given to Andrew recognises his work with the young doctors who are his doctoral students.  It acknowledges Andrew’s extraordinary commitment to his students and the highly successful structures he has developed to help them combine doctoral research and the early development of their clinical careers.



MESAC Group attends international medical education conference

Members of the MESAC Group presented their research at the Association for Medical Education in Europe (AMEE) 2013 Annual Conference in Prague, The Czech Republic.

Winner of the Butland Award for Excellence in Research Supervision announced

The South Auckland Clinical Campus would like to congratulate Professor Andrew Hill as winner of the Butland Award for Excellence in Research Supervision. The Award recognises individuals who have made a long-term contribution to research supervision at the Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences.



Motivation and wellness for medical students

Professor Andrew Hill and Dr Mataroria Lyndon will be undertaking research to determine what motivational factors are likely to influence the well-being of medical students. The research was highlighted on the CMDHB Ko Awatea Blog.

Research Fellow successful at Counties Manukau District Health Board Health Excellence Awards

Dr Mataroria Lyndon was the winner of the education category in the Counties Manukau DHB Health Excellence Awards for his poster, a health and well-being workshop for House Officers: focusing on resilience and positive change. The annual Health Excellence Awards celebrates research undertaken at Counties Manukau DHB.

Board scheme aims to help stressed young doctors avoid burnout

Research on burnout rates which affect more than a quarter of young doctors is highlighted in a NZ Herald article.

Surgical Education Research Prize awarded to Research Fellow

Dr Wendy Yu was awarded the Surgical Education Research Prize at the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons Scientific Congress.

Research Fellow awarded Indigenous medical scholarship by specialist medical college 

Dr Mataroria Lyndon was awarded an Indigenous medical scholarship to attend The Royal Australasian College of Physicians Future Directions in Health Congress in Brisbane, Australia from the 6-9 May. He presented two posters on medical education, and was asked to be on the Health of Doctors Consultation Session Panel.

Dr Joanna Fitch was awarded Best Abstract from the Medical Council of New Zealand Scientific Committee.
