Congratulations for choosing to study a career in health with the Māori and Pacific Admission Scheme, Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences at the University of Auckland.

As part of the Vision 20:20 initiative to increase the number of Māori and Pacific health professionals to 10% of the health workforce by the year 2020, the Māori and Pacific Admission Scheme (MAPAS) seeks to provide our students with a supportive environment in which to begin their pathway to a career in health. As part of this journey, it is important to take advantage of all of the resources available to you.

We have developed this resource to help you take advantage of the financial support that is available for all Māori and Pacific people who are studying a health programme. Please take the time to go through this booklet to identify the scholarships and awards that are applicable to you and your future study.

We would encourage you to apply for as many scholarships and awards as you can. Scholarships and awards can help you with your course fees, living costs, and course related costs (e.g. books, lab-gear and related equipment, and transport).

The number one reason students don’t get scholarships is because they don’t apply for them! So even if you doubt your eligibility and the likelihood of receiving a scholarship or award, it is always a good idea to try!

If you need any help or assistance when applying for a scholarship or award, please do not hesitate to contact our scholarship office by emailing scholarships@auckland.ac.nz.  The MAPAS team are also available to provide any guidance you may need.

We wish you all the best with your applications.
