Postgraduate Diploma in Health Sciences in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)

The Postgraduate Diploma in Health Sciences (PGDipHSc) in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is designed for Medical Radiation Technologists (MRTs) seeking to extend their understanding of MRI and contribute to the improvement of clinical health services by implementing their knowledge and expertise within Medical Imaging services.

The PGDipHSc MRI programme is approved and accredited by the Medical Radiation Technologists Board (MRTB) 

Entry


To gain admission to the PGDipHSc (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) a student must have:

  • completed an undergraduate degree in Medical Imaging or an equivalent qualification
  • hold a current registration with the New Zealand Medical Radiation Technologists Board or as a Medical Radiation Technologist in their country of domicile; and
  • a clinical training position in their chosen specialisation from an approved clinical centre and a completed University of Auckland Clinical Training Position Agreement prior to admission to the programme.

Content


Students are required to enrol in, and complete the following courses:

In addition, assessment of clinical competency will occur in the student’s workplace throughout the duration of the student’s enrolment within this programme. Failure to demonstrate a minimum level of competency at specific time points may result in the student being unable to proceed in the programme.

Duration and Points Value


Points value: 120
Time to complete: Within four years if enrolled part-time
Start semester: One or Two

The programme is designed to be completed part-time and primarily by distance learning.

Outcomes


Students who successfully complete the requirements for this programme, including a clinical competency assessment at an approved workplace, will be eligible for registration with the MRTB in the MRI Scope of Practice.

Students who complete with a B average will be able to progress to a Masters degree and contribute to the development of Medical Imaging services through research.

This programme has a total enrolment clause of 160 points. This is the maximum number of points you can enrol in (including failed or withdrawn courses) towards this programme.

Submitting a Concession Request

  2. Ignore validation error messages about the reason you need to apply for an enrolment concession.
  3. Continue enrolling online until the final stage (after you have accepted the terms and conditions). The enrolment error message will appear.
  4. Click the Concessions button under the error message. The ‘Apply for a concession page’ will appear.
  5. Select the course for which you want to apply for an enrolment concession.
  6. Click the Submit button. The ‘Concessions’ confirmation page will appear.
  7. You will receive an email once a decision has been made.
