Postgraduate Diploma in Health Sciences in Mental Health Nursing

The Postgraduate Diploma in Health Sciences (PGDipHSc) in Mental Health Nursing is aimed at practitioners entering mental health nursing as well as those experienced in mental health nursing practice. There are courses for practitioners in their first year of practice, and for those preparing for advanced practice and nurse practitioner roles. 

This specialisation is offered by the School of Nursing. Courses in this specialisation are offered in a Flexible learning format.

Students are required to enrol in, and complete, 120 points from:

  • NURSING 744 A&B - Specialty Nursing Practicum (30 Points)
  • NURSING 745 - Principles of Medication Management (30 Points)
  • NURSING 746 - Evidence-based Practice and Implementation (30 Points)
  • NURSING 774 - Nursing People in Acute Mental Health Crisis (30 Points)
  • NURSING 776 - Assessment and Clinical Decision Making in MHN (30 Points)
  • NURSING 777 - Advanced Mental Health Nursing in its Social Context (30 Points)
  • NURSING 781 - Psychological Interventions in Nursing and Health Care (30 Points)
  • NURSING 782 - Research Methods in Nursing and Health (30 Points)
  • NURSPRAC 718 - Contemporary Mental Health and Addictions Nursing Practice (30 Points)
  • other courses approved by the Head of the School of Nursing, including POPLPRAC 761 - Mental Health in Old Age
