Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences

Dean's welcome

Welcome to the Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences.

Our ambition at the faculty is to make sure you receive the best education and the best opportunity to meet both your personal and vocational goals, and to meet the needs of our society today and into the future.

Our faculty consists of five schools, including Schools of Nursing, Medical Sciences, Pharmacy, Population Health and the School of Medicine. Each School has a focus on teaching and research, with both strands being woven together under the term “research informed teaching”. If you join us next year, you will find yourself as part of a 2000-strong undergraduate student body studying in our professional or biomedical research programmes.

The faculty is also currently home to a similar 2,000 postgraduate students who contribute significantly to the reputation the faculty enjoys as New Zealand’s health research powerhouse. The faculty’s efforts see the University of Auckland rated among the top 1% of Clinical and Biomedical teaching and research institutions globally*.

The University of Auckland is acknowledged both locally and internationally for its ground-breaking work in advancing modern medicine. Our graduates can be found across the globe in hospitals, medical centres, laboratories and biotech companies, actively influencing the healthcare of the communities they serve and operating right at the forefront of modern medicine.

We are delighted that you have chosen to investigate this pathway, and we look forward to helping you make a difference in the world of health.
