The academic discipline of
Public Health can be described as the art and science
of preventing disease, prolonging life and promoting health through the organised
efforts of society. Public Health covers a range of activities and disciplines including
epidemiology, demography, sociology, health statistics, health economics, health
promotion, health management, health protection, environmental health and health
services and policy.
Eligibility
Students
wishing to enrol in this programme need to have completed a relevant degree,
or completed the requirements for a health
professional qualification and have at
least two years relevant work experience. Students who have completed
the Postgraduate Certificate in Public Health (or its equivalent)
may apply to credit their completed courses to this diploma.

Approved pathways
Students must enrol in and complete either:
- 15 points from
POPLHLTH 760 - Principles of Public Health (15 Points)
- 15 points from
POPLHLTH 708 - Epidemiology (15 Points) or
POPLHLTH 709 - Evidence for Best Practice (15 Points)
- 15 points from POPLHLTH 701-707, 756
- at least 60 points from other courses listed in the
Master of Public Health
Schedule
- up to 15 points from other 700 level courses offered at the University.
OR
- 120 points from one of the areas of specialisation listed below.
Students who have previously completed a Bachelor of Health Sciences are exempt
from the requirement to complete POPLHLTH 760 and must select an alternative
course from the Master
of Public Health Schedule.
Important information
Places on this programme are limited. Priority may be given to applications
received on or before the closing date of 8 December.
Once you start this programme you will need to enrol continuously (each semester)
until the programme is finished. If you need to take a break you must apply for
a suspension.
This programme has a total enrolment clause of 160 points. This is the maximum number
of points you can enrol in (including failed or withdrawn courses) towards this
programme.
