The Country team for INFORMAS in Vietnam includes Assoc. Prof Le Danh Tuyen, director of the National Institute of Nutrition, and Dr. Tran Khanh Van, vice head of micronutrient department and head of Human Resources and Administration at the National Institute of Nutrition. Dr. Tuyen is leader of the project and Dr. Van is coordinator of the project. Two process modules of INFORMAS (public and private sector) are in the process of implementation for the very first time. Hanoi Medical University also sent Assoc. Prof. Pham Van Phu, vice head of the Department of Nutrition and Food Safety to take part in the public sector survey. Our team is conducting the first national survey in Vietnam on food environment policy, benchmarked against international best practice.

The Vietnam team is supported by INFORMAS module leaders - Prof Dr Boyd Swinburn, and Prof Tilakavati Karupaia – Leader of the INFORMAS Malaysia team as the third party organisation in a joint collaboration. We are funded by the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) and our project is titled, “Mapping the implementation of priority food environment policies to tackle diet-related non-communicable diseases in South-East Asia: Comparison between three countries”. The project was approved by the Ministry of Health to be implemented in Vietnam thereby also supported for the data collection process and the policies change from the project results.

The data collection for the public sector will be started from January 2017, The Vietnam team try to complete data collection, data analysis and report by the end of 2017 and the publication in 2018.
