Study options

Undergraduate study


The department leads and coordinates the teaching of clinical general practice in years four, five and six (the latter being the trainee intern year). The department is also involved in the teaching of Year 2 students as part of the earlier introduction of clinical medicine to preclinical students. Dr John Kennelly is the Director of Undergraduate Teaching.

An important part of the undergraduate programme is Community based teaching.

Postgraduate study


The department has an active programme which caters for postgraduate certificates, diplomas, masters and doctoral degrees.

Professor Felicity Goodyear-Smith is Goodfellow Unit Postgraduate Chair and Academic Adviser for the department. She advises on programmes up to masters level. Associate Professor Stephen Buetow is the adviser for PhD studies in the department.

Goodfellow Unit


Within the department, the Goodfellow Unit provides an important source of continuing medical education for general practitioners and other health professions.

Professor Bruce Arroll is the Director of the Goodfellow Unit.
