EyeSi Surgical Simulator

The Ophthalmology Department has recently installed an EyeSi Surgical Simulator. The purchase and accommodation of this NZ$400K device has only been possible by, generous, collaborative support between RANZCO, major philanthropic donations and the University of Auckland.

The EyeSi Surgical Simulator allows participants to practice basic and advanced microsurgical techniques including: basic microsurgical skills, a staged approach to phacoemulsification, and dealing with complex cataract and complications including anterior vitrectomy. In addition we have a suite of vitreo-retinal procedures suitable for advanced trainees and fellows. All courses are structured to experience and provide intrinsic, detailed, EyeSi feedback on personal performance and progress.

Acute Eye Conditions


We are running a new course on Acute Eye Conditions in Semester 1 2011, including Anatomy of the Visual System, Pathophysiology of the Eye, Examination Techniques, The Red Eye, Acute Glaucoma, Further Causes of Loss of Vision, Ophthalmic Trauma and its Immediate Management, Emergencies after Eye Surgery, and Ophthalmic Pharmacology.
