Teaching in the Department of Ophthalmology - Fellowships

Research Positions in Ophthalmology (with option for MD/PhD study)

1-3 year research positions in Ophthalmology are available with option for MD/PhD study:

  1. PhD/MD: aspects of Thyroid Eye Disease (Part-funded at present)
  2. PhD/MD: aspects of Cornea and Anterior Segment Research (Part-funded at present)
  3. Cornea Cross-linking and keratoconus fellowship*
  4. Maurice and Phyllis Paykel Trust Anterior segment Fellowship*

*Only one of 3 & 4 will be available – either offers a 1 year or a 2-3 MD/PhD research option.

Ophthalmology Sub-speciality Fellowships

The Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Auckland and Greenlane Hospital, Auckland District Health Board have openings for the following senior clinical fellowships:

  1. Cornea and Anterior Segment Fellowship – start date July 2021
  2. Vitreo Retina (2 nos) – start date August 2021 and Dec 2021
  3. Medical Retina – start date August 2021
  4. **Oculoplastics – start date July 2021
  5. Paediatric Ophthalmology – start date August 2021
  6. Glaucoma – start date August 2021
  7. Uveitis and inflammatory eye disease – January 2021

All the above fellowships are fully funded one year positions. Please see below for job descriptions and further details. Interested candidates should email their application which must include:

  1. Cover letter specifying reasons for applying and plans post fellowship
  2. Full CV
  3. 1-2-page summary of surgical log
  4. Copy of the IELTS results, if applicable (check minimum score criteria on Medical Council website
