The Wendy & Bruce Hadden Chair of Ophthalmology and Translational Vision Research was founded in 2005 with a generous donation from Drs Wendy and Bruce Hadden, and bequests from the Sidney James Taylor and Helen Cadman estates. The establishment of the new chair was to further strengthen laboratory and clinical research activities within the department, the university, and hospital settings.

Professor Colin Green, an eminent cell biologist with an international reputation in research into wound healing, particularly in the cornea, is the first recipient of the new chair. Professor Green holds PhD and DSc degrees from the University of Auckland. He worked for twelve years in France, England and the United States, where he held positions as British Heart Foundation Overseas Fellow, Robert A. Welch Fellow at Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, and Royal Society University Research Fellow at University College London. In 1992 he won the Robert Feulgen Prize of the International Association of Histochemists. He has published over 90 biomedical research papers in international journals including Nature and Science.

In 2003 he co-founded CoDaTherapeutics (NZ) Ltd, and in 2005 co-founded CoDa Therapeutics (Inc) in San Diego where he is Chief Technical Officer and Director. Professor Green obtained a Personal Chair in Anatomy with Radiology at the University of Auckland in 2004. He brings a new range of research approaches, a keen interest in translational research, and significant experience in graduate student supervision.

Professor Green took up the inaugural Wendy & Bruce Hadden Chair of Ophthalmology and Translational Vision Research in June 2005.
