2017 Summer Students Symposium


The New Zealand National Eye Centre (NZ-NEC) hosted its annual summer student symposium on 21st February 2017.

17 summer students from the Department of Ophthalmology and the School of Optometry and Vision Science (SOVS) presented at the symposium.

The students presented on the research projects that they had worked on over the 10 week studentships. The symposium was very well attended with approximately 80 staff, students and senior faculty members.

The presentations were judged by Distinguished Professor and Deputy Dean Ian Reid and Professor Alan Merry, Head of School of Medicine.

First prize was awarded to Muthana Noori, who was supervised by Dr Nicola Anstice from SOVS.

Second prize was awarded to William Cook, who was supervised by Dr Stuti Misra, Dr James McKelvie and Professor Charles McGhee from the Department of Ophthalmology.

Third prize went to Aimee Aitken, again from the SOVS. Aimee was supervised by Dr Phil Turnbull.
