Positions on the PGSA committee

FMHS-PGSA President


The role of the FMHS-PGSA President includes:

  • Ensuring that the committee performs its duties efficiently within the faculty.
  • Negotiating the annual budget for FMHS-PGSA with the Faculty.
  • Chairing monthly FMHS-PGSA board meetings and discussing matters that affect postgraduate students (e.g. monthly events).
  • Being on the Faculty Postgraduate Studies Committee that meets monthly.

FMHS-PGSA Vice-President


The role of the FMHS-PGSA Vice-President includes:

  • Supporting the FMHS-PGSA President in ensuring that the committee performs its duties efficiently within the faculty and negotiating the annual budget for FMHS-PGSA.
  • Taking over the chairing of the monthly FMHS-PGSA board meetings in the absence of the the President.
  • Being on the Faculty Committee Meeting that meets monthly.

Secretary


The role of the FMHS-PGSA secretary includes:

  • Attending the monthly FMHS-PGSA board meetings.
  • Recording and typing up the minutes for each meeting and distributing them to the board.

Treasurer


The role of the FMHS-PGSA treasurer is to look after the FMHS-PGSA finances and includes:

  • Maintaining a budget and to balance the books at the end of the year.
  • Keeping track of all the payments and reimbursements.
  • Updating financial statements and keeping the necessary organisations informed.
  • Carrying out a financial health check.

Events Coordinator (2-4 positions)


The role of the Events Coordinator includes:

  • Organising FMHS-PGSA monthly social events, which includes: activities, food, beverages, venue bookings, advertising for the events and post-event clean up. Volunteers within the committee may also assist.
  • Organising other events include postgraduate morning tea and occasionally involve special topics and guests for students to have an opportunity to talk to professionals around the university.

Grants Officer


The role of the FMHS-PGSA Grants Officers includes:

  • Assessing the eligibility of applicants for the FHMS-PGSA Masters/Honours Thesis Binding Grant and notifying students on the outcome of their application.
  • Advertising, compiling and reviewing FMHS-PGSA Travel Grant applications and notifying students on the outcome of their application.

Representative on the City-PGSA Board (3 positions)


The role of these FMHS-PGSA representatives includes:

  • Attending bimonthly meeting that comprises of staff representatives from each of the Schools in the Faculty, key administrative offices, the Associate Dean of Postgraduate Studies, and two student representatives from the FMHS-PGSA.
  • Discussing matters that oversee all processes relating to the postgraduate environment in a School or the Faculty, including marketing, registration, enrolment, annual review, research supervisory capacity, scholarships and prizes, appointment of examiners and moderators and other administrative processes. 
  • Discussing matters that may provide advice to Schools and recommend strategies for meeting postgraduate education goals and ensuring they align with those of the Faculty and/or University.
  • Reporting back to the FMHS-PGSA board on relevant information including Faculty statistics and considering any new university postgraduate policies and proposals.

Representative on the Faculty Research Committee


The role of these FMHS-PGSA representatives includes:

  • Attending Faculty Research Committee meetings every two months.
  • Discussing matters that may assist the Faculty Research Committee in developing strategic policies for research fundings, grants and scholarships.
  • Discussing any issues faced by postgraduate students related to funding or research related policies.
  • Reporting back to the FMHS-PGSA board on relevant information.

Representative on the International Committee (2 positions)


The role of these FMHS-PGSA representatives includes:

  • Attending the International Committee meetings every two months.
  • Being the student’s voice on a variety of issues that may arise including but not limited to: immigration issues, scholarship questions, health insurance questions and over all wellbeing.
  • Helping with the organisation of two PhD International Student luncheons throughout the year in partnership with the International Student Assistant and International Development Manager.
  • Reporting back to the FMHS-PGSA board on relevant information.

Representative on the Postgraduate Studies Committee (2 positions)


The role of these FMHS-PGSA representatives includes:

  • Attending monthly Postgraduate Studies Committee meetings.
  • Discussing all matters relating to postgraduate research in the Faculty, including: registration and enrolment, masters and doctoral regulations and statutes, scholarship guidelines and discussing new policies and proposals.
  • Discussing any issues faced by postgraduate students related to postgraduate study policies.
  • Reporting back to the FMHS-PGSA board on relevant information.

Representative on the Equity Committee


The role of this FMHS-PGSA representative includes:

  • Attending the Equity Committee meeting every two months.
  • Discussing various equity issues and policies.
  • Reporting relevant information back to the FMHS-PGSA board for discussion.

Representative on the Library Committee


The role of this FMHS-PGSA representative includes:

  • Attending Library committee meetings twice a year, and delivering the opinions, suggestions and questions from postgraduate students to the library.
  • Assisting the library to advertise or introduce new databases, workshops, services and other resources available for the postgraduate students.

Representative on the Faculty Committee (3 positions)


The role of these FMHS-PGSA representatives includes:

  • Attending monthly Faculty Committee meetings.
  • Discussing matters that affect the Faculty as a whole, including: teaching, learning and research, programmes, University policies and Dean's/Associate Deans' reports
  • Reporting back to the FMHS-PGSA board on relevant information.

Webpage Manager


The role of the FMHS-PGSA Webcontent Manager includes:

  • Create, develop and manage content on the FMHS-PGSA website on the University of Auckland website.
  • Managing, promoting, updating the FMHS-PGSA social media web content with relevant information for FMHS postgraduate students.
