The Centre for Addiction Research’s inaugural research showcase on Monday 6 July is an opportunity for people working within the alcohol and other drugs (AOD) sector to learn more about the research interests and current projects of Centre members.

The afternoon has been designed to provide top-level overviews of recent or ongoing research initiatives at the Centre that may be of interest to clinicians, policymakers, researchers and others working within the dangerous consumptions sector in New Zealand.

A mix of plenary and concurrent breakout sessions are offered to cater for diverse interests, with presentations falling under four broad themes: public health and addictions, biomedical advances, interventions and treatment, and socio-cultural perspectives.

The afternoon commences with two plenary presentations of projects lead by directors of the Centre:

  • Cytisine: a 60 year old tobacco treatment that no-one has heard of / Honorary Associate Professor Natalie Walker
  • The WHO ASSIST: From research and development to implementation and practice / Dr David Newcombe

A poster display area will highlight other staff and student research projects of potential interest to the AOD policy, research and practice community.

The afternoon will conclude with light refreshments.
