“Influence of bilingualism on cognition: the case of the Basque people"

Laiene Olabarrieta Landa obtained her Bachelor in Psychology from the University of Deusto, Spain. Her studies have focused on the area of neuropsychology, with a special interest in neuropsychological assessment and implementation of cognitive rehabilitation programs in patients with brain injury.

During 2011-2012 she was awarded a grant from the Basque Government to work as part of a research team. She was also appointed as a member of the Talentia Bizkaia group, a special programme in which only the most outstanding students from Basque Universities can participate in.

In 2013 Laiene won a pre doctoral fellowship from the Basque Government, which subsidizes her doctoral thesis.  She is currently a PhD candidate in psychology, supervised by Visiting Seelye Fellow Dr Juan Carlos Arango-Lasprilla and Dr Alfredo Ardila.

Laiene’s project seeks to obtain and adapt normative data from three verbal fluency tests she applied to bilingual individuals from Basque country and Catalonia. She has presented abstract posters and hosted seminars on brain damage and bilingualism at several national and international conferences.
