Abstract: Optically Decoding Astrocyte-Neuron Activity in Cortex

Dr Kira Poskanzer will present work demonstrating that astrocytes are critical circuit elements in determining synchronization state in mammalian cerebral cortex.

Using simultaneous two-photon in vivo imaging and electrophysiology, she will describe a novel temporal relationship between population astrocyte calcium activity and the slow-oscillation-dominated state, a state important for learning and memory.

Dr Poskanzer will also present ongoing work in the lab investigating fundamental astrocytic signaling systems through the development and application of advanced optical techniques.
