Dr Evan Reid is both a clinician and a Lecturer of Genetics at Cambridge University. He is researching the molecular mechanisms of axonal degeneration, focusing on the hereditary spastic paraplegias (HSPs) as models for this process.

His work has encompassed clinical studies, gene mapping and studies on the molecular cellular pathology of the conditions. Evan is a clinician and has particular experience in discovering the causes of spastic paraparesis.

Evan and his team have successfully constructed a coherent understanding of the cellular mechanisms of HSP, taking the multiple and apparently diverse and disparate genes involved in the disease and examining their function and interactions linking them into a unifying cellular pathway for axonal degeneration.
