Your personal invitation

Distinguished Professor Sir Richard Faull, Director of the Centre for Brain Research, would like to invite you to Artistically Speaking; an evening of neuroscience, clinical updates and art fundraising to benefit the CBR's Gavel Clubs; More than Words and Movers & Shakers.

This event will take place on Thursday 4 May, 6.30-9pm at Tāmaki Innovation Centre, 261 Morrin Road, St Johns, Auckland.

Gavel Clubs are affiliated with Toastmasters International, the world’s largest organization for improving public speaking and leadership skills.

More Than Words, for people with aphasia, and Movers & Shakers, for people with Parkinson’s disease, are specifically designed for the needs of individuals experiencing these conditions.

Our Gavel clubs give their members a unique opportunity to improve their communication skills, build confidence, gain leadership skills, and make friends in a mutually supportive learning environment.

Hosted by Professor Suzanne Purdy, Director of Speech Science, Artistically Speaking is an evening in which art and neuroscience intersect, with the ultimate aim to raise funds to support the ongoing progress of our More than Words and Movers & Shakers participants.

We will be hosting a brief auction of donated and carefully curated New Zealand artwork, followed by a research and clinical panel discussion.

Our panel will be comprised of Distinguished Professor Sir Richard Faull, Director of the Centre for Brain Research, Associate Professor Cathy Stinear, Director of the Stroke Research Clinic and Dr Clare McCann, Aphasiologist and speech language lecturer. Philippa Friary, Director of Clinical Education of the Speech Science programme, will be acting as panel chair.

Please join us to celebrate the creativity and beauty of both our brains and art.  We promise an evening of inspiration, intrigue and entertainment.

Please email Frankie Favero to confirm your attendance, for catering purposes, by close of business on Tuesday 2 May.
