A Moving Matariki

Our Matariki celebration was held on June 29 in the Grafton Atrium.

Once again, our FMHS whānau and invited guests were treated to a beautiful celebration of culture.

Tempura pikopiko, mini mussel fritters and a kaitaia fire oyster shot were some of the lovely culturally inspired tasters to the evening.

The performances by Ngā Tauira Māori were a moving experience of colour, harmonious voices and talented guitar accompaniment.

We were also lucky to be joined by TV star Pio Terei who spoke of the Trust he started with his wife in honour of his son Teina who passed away from acute myeloid leukaemia. Trust Teina is dedicated to sending the message that there is a vital need for Māori and Pacific blood and bone marrow donations. Koha from the night went towards supporting this worthy cause.

It was an honour to be a part of this wonderful celebration. Congratulations Associate Professor Papaarangi Reid and her team for organising such a fabulous event again this year.
