National Science Challenge: Our Land and Water

Request for Proposals: Vision Matauranga Contestable Fund

The National Science Challenge, Our Land and Water, has issued a request for proposals for their Vision Mātauranga Contestable Fund.  

Applicants will need to complete the attached template and submit this into the Research Funding Module (InfoEd) by Friday 22nd September 2017 (Please submit under Ag Research / Our Land and Water NSC). 

The research office will then forward all proposals to Our Land and Water.

Total funding available

Up to $500,000 (ex GST)

Funders note

Proposals will be accepted to a maximum of $250,000 although the final allocation will be made at the discretion of the Kāhui and Challenge board.

Project start date

27 October 2017

Project duration

Up to 30 June 2019


Proposals will initially be assessed by the Theme and Vision Mātauranga Leaders, Directorate and an independent expert. On the basis of this assessment, a subset of high quality proposals will be sent by the Chief Scientist to the Kāhui for further deliberations.


Any New Zealand-based research organisation or end-user may apply.  However a minimum of 75% of any funds approved must remain within New Zealand.


The project (or a close variation) cannot already be funded by MBIE or another funding agency and any parallel application(s) must be declared in the proposal.
