New Head of the School of Pharmacy named

10 February 2012

Professor John Shaw will be stepping down from the Head of School of Pharmacy this year.  As the foundation Head, Professor Shaw provided the vision and leadership that led to the establishment of the School and its growth into the strong and vibrant unit that it is today.  The Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences wishes to record its most grateful appreciation to Professor Shaw for his outstanding commitment to Pharmacy education and research here at The University of Auckland.

The faculty is pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Julia Kennedy to replace Professor John Shaw as Head of School of Pharmacy effective June 1st, 2012.  Professor Kennedy is a graduate of the University of Otago and currently holds the position of Professor of Clinical Pharmacy, University College, Cork Ireland.   Professor Kennedy's primary interests have focused on perioperative drug use and the principles of science underpinning Clinical Pharmacy practice. Professor Kennedy practised as a Clinical Pharmacist before beginning her academic career so she brings a wealth of both practical and academic experience to the role of Head of School. We look forward to welcoming Professor Kennedy to the faculty towards the middle of the year.
