Ngaire Kerse to head up Department of General Practice and Primary Health Care

27 January 2012

Professor Ngaire Kerse has been appointed as Head of the Department of General Practice and Primary Health Care, taking up the role on a permanent basis after being Acting Head of the department since mid 2011. Ngaire has demonstrated her ability to provide strong and effective leadership for this key division of the faculty and her appointment has been strongly endorsed by her colleagues in the Department.

Ngaire is a champion for primary care of the elderly and much of her research activity is concentrated in this area. Ngaire was a recipient of a Commonwealth Fund Harkness Fellowship in 2002 - 2003, and was last year awarded a Distinguished Fellowship of the Royal New Zealand College of GPs. Presently Ngaire is undertaking a Hood Fellowship in the US and will return to take up the new post in February.

The Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences would like to extend its warmest congratulations to Professor Kerse, and at the same time express sincere thanks to Professor Bruce Arroll for his work heading the department.
