A healthy university supports healthy people, builds healthy places, develops healthy policies, and implements healthy practices. In this seminar, Dr Rajshri Roy will be outlining research that develops and champions evidence-informed research initiatives to improve the food environment for people and of places at the University of Auckland.

A food environment audit tool, was used to review the food retail outlets and vending machines at University of Auckland campuses in conjunction with  a survey instrument that asked university students and staff their opinions about the university food environment and suggested changes. The findings have been instrumental in guiding a university-wide policy for food vendors on how to better comply with current healthy food and drink standards. Additionally, the findings are currently informing interventions to improve the food environment in tertiary education settings to make healthy choice the easy choice.

The research presented in this seminar supports the creation of healthy learning and working environments on our campuses, with clear benefits for the broader community.
