Building expert teams in healthcare. NetworkZ - Professor Jennifer Weller
Director, Centre for Medical and Health Sciences Education, University of Auckland

Individual expertise is essential, but outcomes for patients requiring acute care depend on the collective expertise of their whole team of health professionals. How do surgical teams acquire this collective expertise? Operating room staff may not know, or trust each other, before they are thrown together for a complex operation. In New Zealand, with the backing of ACC, we have embarked on an ambitious five-year program, the NetworkZ program, of simulation-based team training involving real teams in their own operating room.

In this presentation I will explore how other organizations build expert teams and describe how we are building this collective expertise in New Zealand surgical teams to achieve better outcomes in acute care.

A strategy to implement NetworkZ sustainably - Ms Kaylene Henderson
Programme Manager, NetworkZ

The NetworKZ programme is being implemented over a five-year period to five DHBs each year. Each DHB has unique strengths, challenges and solutions. We’d like to take you on that implementation journey towards a local sustainable programme.
