Dr Veronica Boyle is an Endocrinology and Diabetes physician trainee at the Greenlane Clinical Centre. Seeing the huge personal cost of obesity related disease has spurred an interest in diabetes and obesity prevention. Knowing that adults find making lifestyle changes nearly impossible, Dr Boyle developed an interest in the Developmental Origins of Disease theory.

In this presentation Dr Boyle will describe her analysis of the plasma metabolome of the participants of the MAVIDOS trial. The MAVIDOS trial is the largest randomised placebo-controlled trial of vitamin D supplementation in pregnancy. Vitamin D deficiency has been found to be more common amongst women who develop GDM. Therefore, it has been hypothesised that vitamin D supplementation may prevent GDM and improve the nutritional environment of the fetus.
