The Centre for Medical and Health Sciences Education (CMHSE) Research Seminar Series

Join us to hear presentations from Dr Yan Chen and Dr Peter Beaver on Monday 16 October.

The seminar topics and abstracts for the October series are as below:

'Career-defining moments and professional identity'

Dr Yan Chen - Lecturer, Centre for Medical and Health Sciences Education

Identity is a multifaceted social construct, which can contribute to personal wellbeing. This presentation discusses the use of career defining moments to measure doctors’ professional identity and to further explore the link between professional identity and wellbeing.

'Understanding the implementation of multidisciplinary simulation-based team-training'

Dr Peter Beaver - Research Fellow, Centre for Medical and Health Sciences Education

MORSim (the Multidisciplinary Operating Room Simulation) is a method of team training that improves communication and teamwork between operating room staff. MORSim has been funded by ACC for all DHBs in NZ, and we anticipate that improvements in communication and teamwork due to MORSim will enhance the safety of surgical care. In this seminar I will discuss our use of an implementation science approach to understand the challenges and successes involved in a major simulation-based safety initiative.
