Expressing concern and writing it down: the impact (or lack of impact) on the transfer of clinical information at nursing handover

Quality of communication at patient handover is often poor, compromising patient safety. We designed a 2 x 2 randomized controlled experiment examining (1) how adding an expression of concern, and (2) verbally directing to a written note affect the receiver's level of confidence in the truth of a target piece of information given at handover.

An Evaluation of Hospice New Zealand’s Fundamentals of Palliative Care programme at a single site

In this presentation, I will present findings from a study that examined the efficacy of two training and development modules. These modules, ‘Essence of Palliative Care’ and ‘Pain and Symptom Management’, were conducted by Mercy Hospice training personnel at the Ranfurly site.
