BHSc careers evening Event as iCalendar

03 October 2013

6am - 8:30pm

Venue: Function Room 730-220, Building 730, Tāmaki Innovation Campus

Each year we talk to a lot of students about what they want to do at the end of their studies. Although some students know what they want to do, others are undecided and some are just beginning to explore the variety of career paths a BHSc can offer them. This is, in part, because of the great breadth of the BHSc and the wide range of opportunities that our degree opens doors to.

To address this, in 2012 we introduced the BHSc Pathways initiative – which we hope will help students focus their course choices during their undergraduate studies, but this is just one way we are wishing to help our students.

Annually we organise a BHSc Careers evening, where we invite representatives from across the health sector to meet our current BHSc students and, it allows our students to see the broad range of opportunities that exist in the New Zealand sector. This year we have decided to theme the event and have titled it “Marketing You and Your Degree” – as students often struggle to know what they should be doing now to ensure a successful transition into a health related career in the future.

We would like to invite you to the 2013 BHSc Careers Event to be held from 6pm to 8.30pm on Thursday, 3rd October 2013 at the School of Population Health. Invited to this event are all current BHSc students, a number of BHSc graduates, staff involved with the programme as well as members of the wider health and health related sectors. The idea is to give everyone an opportunity to showcase our students, the degree and its wide application across health and health-related sectors.

This year's event focuses on how you can best position yourself for your future career aspirations. Bringing you a range of inspirational guests, organisations that that help you get where you want to be and masses of advice from the health sector and BHSc alumni who are out there using their BHSc and showing New Zealand just how amazing YOUR degree really is.

We will start the evening with a panel made up of a variety of people to give our students an opportunity to find out how our guests got to where they are today, filling non-clinical roles in the NZ Health Sector, and also to learn from your experiences how best to prepare themselves for the challenges that lay ahead. The following hour or so we have an open ‘faire’ type event, giving an opportunity for the students to speak to each organisation. Guests are invited to set up small displays if they wish. We have found this to be a huge successful part of the evening, giving students the chance to focus their time speaking with organisations that particularly interest them.

We will provide drinks and nibbles as well as a bus back to the city at the end of the night, so this is a perfect opportunity for you meet new people, network and really explore the options that lie ahead for you.
