Genetic engineering is a plant breeding technology that has seen unprecedented rates of uptake worldwide. Many benefits have come through for farmers, consumers and most importantly for the environment. Concerns about the technology are still held by some people despite the excellent track record of safety. The talk will briefly introduce the technology and discuss its perceived risks and demonstrated benefits, in the context of accepted agricultural and forestry practice.
