Parenthood, employment and the “Child penalty”: Combing parenting and career seminar Event as iCalendar

01 August 2013

1 - 2pm

Venue: NICAI Conference Centre Lecture Theatre, Building 423, 22 Symonds St

Join us for our next Combining Parenting and a Career Seminar to hear University of Auckland Sociology Professor Maureen Baker present research findings on the employment consequences of childbearing for men and women.

Maureen will discuss how, compared to men, women tend to make more employment-related concessions for children, especially if they pursue high-level careers, or parent without a partner.

Throughout her 40-year career, Maureen has taught sociology and social policy in Canada, Australia and New Zealand and has also worked as a policy adviser and researcher for the Canadian Parliament. She has authored and/or edited more than 19 books and over130 articles relating to family trends, comparative social policies, and gender and work.

Presented by: Professor Maureen Baker
