Dr Anna Pilbrow is a Research Fellow in the Christchurch Heart Institute at the University of Otago, Christchurch. Anna’s research focuses on understanding genetic susceptibility to heart disease and identifying candidate biomarkers for the presence and progression of heart disease.  Her talk will describe two projects that involve non-coding regions of the genome, once known as ‘junk DNA’, which are proving to be a treasure trove for biomarker discovery.
