In 2012 it became mandatory for all pharmacists registered in New Zealand to practice pharmacy in a culturally competent manner. Various teaching initiatives have been introduced into the BPharm programme to prepare students to achieve this newly required competence. The Missouri Community Action Poverty Simulation is one of these initiatives. On October 8th, 90 second year BPharm students, 17 School of Pharmacy staff and 6 volunteers from Auckland City Mission participated in this 3 hour shared learning experience.

This presentation will provide more details about what the simulation entails, what we wanted students to gain from participating, the preparation work involved and whether we intend to run it again.
