Molecular Medicine and Pathology seminar series: Group a streptococcus - what makes this bacterium so nasty? Event as iCalendar

01 November 2011

3:30 - 4:30pm

Venue: Seminar Room 501-505, Building 501, 85 Park Road, Grafton

The next seminar in the MMP seminar series will be presented by Dr Thomas Proft and is entitled “ Group A Streptococcus - What Makes This Bacterium So Nasty?”

Streptococcus pyogenes or Group A streptococcus (GAS) is a human pathogenic bacterium that causes a wide range of disease, including pharyngitis, impetigo, necrotizing fasciitis and toxic shock syndrome.

This is mainly due to the production of a large variety of virulence factors. This talk will focus on two recently discovered virulence factors – Streptococcus pyogenes nuclease A (SpnA) and GAS pili.
