Human Factors Group Symposium 2011 Event as iCalendar

06 May 2011

8am - 5pm

The Smarter Workplace Safety Symposium 2011 will be hosted by

The Human Factors Group from The University of Auckland in May 2011.

Smarter workplace safety means taking the next step beyond ‘this is what you must do’ training, beyond checklists and technological advances, to understanding the behaviours which change the attitudes of all staff to workplace safety.

Our symposium on 6 May 2011 provides the tools to foster this fundamental change in occupational health and safety. These tools have been developed from New Zealand and international research in human factors. Our presenters are local and international experts in understanding and influencing human factors in the workplace.  The symposium will cover:

  • Understanding why smart people do unsafe things
  • Changing workplace culture so that ‘the way we do things around here’ builds in automatic choices towards safe behaviour
  • The best types of data and measures to track progress towards an improved safety culture
  • The strategic choices needed to underpin a culture of safety
