Research interests

Associate Professor Lindsay Plank gained his first degrees at the University of Auckland before completing a DPhil in biophysics at the University of Waikato. Postdoctoral research followed at The Pennsylvania State University and Syracuse University. After a period teaching biostatistics in the Department of Zoology he joined the Department of Surgery and is now director of a state-of-the-art body composition laboratory established by Professor Graham Hill. Research studies carried out on patients undergoing major surgery or those with serious sepsis or major trauma have been directed at nutritional, hormonal and drug interventions designed to enhance their recovery by reducing the massive losses of body protein that occur. Current research is primarily focused on interventions designed to improve nutritional status of patients with chronic liver disease and outcome from liver transplantation.
