The Bachelor of Health Sciences
degree offers undergraduate training in public health and health services research.
Introduced in 1999, the degree draws
upon courses from a number of faculties, including
Medical and Health Sciences, Arts,
Commerce and
Science.
The core courses include:
- Health Systems I (Introduction to the Health System)
- Health and Society
- Behaviour, Health and Development
- Population Health (Introduction to Epidemiology)
- Biology: Organ Systems
- Statistics
- Research Methods in Health
- Health Promotion
- Health Care Ethics
There are currently two specialities
within the degree. The Public Health speciality prepares students for careers
and postgraduate study in public health and health services research, while the
Community Health Development specialisation prepares students for careers and
postgraduate study in health promotion and community development.
