Undergraduate teaching programme

The department leads and coordinates the teaching of clinical general practice in years four, five and six (the latter being the trainee intern year). The department is also involved in the teaching of Year 2 students as part of the earlier introduction of clinical medicine to preclinical students. Dr Tana Fishman is Director of Undergraduate Teaching and Dr John Kennelly is the Deputy Director.

An important part of the undergraduate programme is Community based teaching.

Postgraduate teaching programme

The department has an active programme which caters for postgraduate certificates, diplomas, masters and doctoral degrees.

Dr Peter Huggard is Postgraduate Academic Adviser for the department. He advises on programmes up to masters level. Associate Professor Stephen Buetow is the adviser for PhD studies in the department.

Goodfellow Unit

Within the department, the Goodfellow Unit provides an important source of postgraduate continuing medical education for general practitioners and other health professions, and has several education/research units. Postgraduate diplomas are also taught by the Goodfellow Unit.

Dr Peter Huggard is the Director of the Goodfellow Unit. Professor Felicity Goodyear-Smith provides academic leadership of research and postgraduate teaching in the unit.
