Research in the Professional Development Programme encompasses projects that include evaluating: 

• a multi-item lifestyle screening tool
• community based teaching in the department
• needs for communication skills training
• strategies to upskill health professionals in the delivery on brief interventions.

A major review of the rural medical workforce has been underway. This programme operates mainly in the Goodfellow Unit.
