Effective Practice, Informatics & Quality Improvement (EPIQ) was established in 2002 to support effective (evidence-based) practice, health informatics
and quality improvement initiatives in the health and disability support sectors, regionally,
nationally and internationally.
EPIQ is a collaboration of academics, clinicians and other health sector professionals
in the Auckland region.
EPIQ is led by Professor
Rod Jackson, Head of the Section of Epidemiology and Biostatistics, School of
Population Health.

1. Evidence-based practice
- Certificate of Public Health (Effective Practice)
A four course postgraduate certificate including 3 EPIQ courses:

A short course in quality improvement for 5th Year
medical students
A quality improvement project for 6th Year medical
students in association with the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology
Workshops
EPIQ runs half-day to two-day workshops (on request)
in evidence-based practice (critical appraisal) and quality improvement.
Evidence-based guidelines development
EPIQ staff have been involved in developing and / or managing the
development of practice guidelines for the New Zealand Guideline Group and the
Accident Compensation Corporation.
Research and development
EPIQ is a partner with
Enigma Publishing Ltd in the development of
a web-based clinical decision support system delivering evidence-based recommendations at the moment of
care called PREDICT.
