EPIQ (Effective Practice, Informatics & Quality improvement)
What is EPIQ?
EPIQ (Effective Practice, Informatics & Quality Improvement)
was established in 2002 to support effective (evidence-based) practice, health informatics
and quality improvement initiatives in the health and disability support sectors, regionally,
nationally and internationally.
EPIQ is a collaboration of academics, clinicians and other health sector professionals
in the Auckland region.
EPIQ is led by Professor
Rod Jackson, Head of the Section
of Epidemiology and Biostatistics, School of Population Health, Faculty of Medical
and Health Sciences, University of Auckland

University teaching programmes:
1. Evidence-based Practice
- Certificate of Public Health (Effective Practice):
- A four course postgraduate certificate including 3 EPIQ courses:

POPHLTH709 - Clinical Epidemiology Evidence-based Healthcare

POPHLTH712 - Clinical Trials Design, Analysis and Management
- Plus one other relevant MPH course approved by the Head of Section, Epidemiology & Biostatistics
- Critically Appraised Topics (CATs):
- A course in evidence-based practice for 4th year medical students.
2. Health Informatics

One undergraduate course (POPHLTH303 -
Health Informatics)
3. Quality Improvement
- One postgraduate course:
- Two undergraduate courses in Quality Improvement
- A short course in Quality Improvement for 5th Year
medical students
- A Quality Improvement project for 6th Year medical
students in association with the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology
Workshops:
- EPIQ runs half-day to two-day workshops (on request)
in evidence-based practice (critical appraisal) and quality improvement.

Enigma Publishing Ltd in the development of
PREDICT (PDF, 215 KB),
a web-based clinical decision support system delivering evidence-based recommendations at the moment of
care (see presentations below).
