PhD students' research

  • Guocai (Jose) Chen, PhD Student. Jose is analysing the text of health consumer discussions to determine how computer algorithms can detect changes in self-image. This will be applied to provide tools to support the facilitation of online discussion groups where people discuss their experiences in coping with chronic illness.
  • Thusitha Mabotuwana, PhD Student. Thusitha is looking at the representation of evidence-based care plans and the alignment of electronic prescribing data to those plans for quality assurance.
  • Yulong (Helen) Gu, PhD Student. Helen is investigating the use of workflow and groupware technologies to improve knowledge management in clinical genetic testing.
  • Mehnaz Adnan, PhD Student. In Mehnaz's project the value of web 2.0 and hypermedia will be explored in creating and sharing clinical information in E-discharge context. Web 2.0 technology, specifically "wiki", will be used to implement Electronic Discharge Summary System (EDS) system to support communication and collaboration needs of clinicians in the process of creating discharge summaries. Hypermedia will be used to provide semantic linking of EDS content to improve information retrieval process.
  • Janet Liang, PhD Student. Janet is exploring the ways in which knowledge management can support the ways in which doctors make decisions and act of them in terms of patients whose condition is deteriorating and require admission to the intensive care unit (ICU).
