The second annual Goodfellow Symposium held on 21 – 22 April went down a treat with
delegates, sponsors and exhibitors. About 350 people participated in a very successful weekend event which attracted 242 delegates and practice passes. The range of professional
disciplines included 138 doctors, 45 nurses, seven pharmacists and Auckland Faculty
Board funded student places.
The Goodfellow Unit acknowledges the generous support of our sponsors, exhibitors and collegiate partners including Mercy Ascot, our premier
sponsor.
Delegates found the general standard of presentations by 47 speakers and workshop
presenters to be excellent. The practical sessions were informative, upbeat and
aimed at improving professional practice. Delegates enjoyed the very friendly atmosphere
and the opportunity to mingle with their colleagues in the amenable surroundings
of the School of Population Health’s Tamaki campus.
Wendy Fairhurst-Winstanley, a nurse practitioner and partner in a GP practice, delivered
an excellent keynote speech which challenged the status quo and gave delegates a
glimpse of general practice in the UK.
Some feedback from doctors, nurses and pharmacists:
-
“It was great to share with many disciplines and to have sessions involving us all.”
-
“Fantastic weekend – well done – will spread the word.”
-
“Excellent conference – enjoyable and informative”
-
“Congratulations on a professional well run event.”
-
“Carry on doing what you are doing.”
The atrium buzzed with activity at 14 exhibition stands during the session breaks.
Delegates commented on the quality of the stands and appreciated the information
given to them by the exhibitors. Delegates were fully engaged and took every opportunity
to attend what was on offer at the symposium.
The symposium dinner was held at the Lion Foundation Event Centre in the Auckland
Museum’s recently opened Grand Atrium on Saturday evening. The panoramic views of
the city lit up at night provided a wonderful setting for relaxed dining with colleagues
and friends.
