The Centre for Asian and Ethnic Minority Health Research was formed in May 2004 and operates from the School of Population Health, in the Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences, at The University of Auckland. The centre is New Zealand’s pre-eminent research group on Asian health issues and is developing as the national focal point for the production and translation of research findings into policy and services directed at enhancing health outcomes for specific Asian ethnic populations in New Zealand. The scope of work that the centre undertakes is widneing to include other Ethnic Minority populations in New Zealand. CAHRE has a vision for international collaboration with individual researchers and organisations from Asian and other countries including India, Africa, the Middle East and South America. It focuses on making positive effects to health and wellbeing for Asian and othe Ethnic Minority New Zealanders and their communities. CAHRE is involved in a wide range of activities, including research, postgraduate and undergraduate teaching, workforce training and dissemination of research findings through publications and conference / community presentations.

Research

CAHRE's research programme concentrates on five aspects of Asian health:

1. Mental health issues:
