CMHR logo

The Centre for Mental Health Research has been formed in response to a growing demand for high quality research in the field of mental health and addictions. It seeks to be a national and international centre of excellence in mental health research, policy and service development. This includes the need for high quality research that will contribute to better outcomes for service users through the planning, monitoring and evaluation of mental health and addictions services.

The centre aims to work in partnership with mental health service users and other stakeholders to conduct and support mental health research that:

  • Contributes to our understanding of mental health and addictions and its impact on indiviudals, whanau and the wider community.
  • Reduces discrimination towards people experiencing mental health problems.
  • Facilitates effective mental health care delivery.
  • Improves the mental health and well being of all New Zealanders.
