Waikato

The Waikato region is renowned for the mighty Waikato River that flows through it, adventure tourism, an outdoor way of life and for its slower, less stressful pace of life. It spans from the east coast to the west, stretches south to the ski fields of the North Island volcanic plateau and covers large areas of farmland and unspoilt native bush.

Waikato is home to a diverse population including relatively large Māori and rural communities, which influence the way health services are funded and delivered. Services are provided by a wide range of independent providers and Health Waikato, the Waikato District Health Board’s provider of hospital and related services.
